Oakville's Newest Coffee Shop ☕️

MOTW Coffee in Illinois

MOTW Coffee is opening its first Canadian location in Oakville as early as this month, bringing specialty coffee, Arabic pastries, and a space inspired by the Instagram page Muslims of the World to 335 Kerr Street.

Owner Shamaas Nyazee says the café aims to create a welcoming space for everyone, with vibrant colours, natural light, a real moss wall, and indoor trees throughout. The menu includes lattes, matcha, espresso drinks, refreshers, teas, Yemeni chai, and desserts.

The chain started as an Instagram page highlighting Muslim lives during a period of high anti-Muslim sentiment, then grew into a café concept that now has 15 locations across the U.S. The Oakville store is expected to open by early June at the latest.

Two Patios Make National List 🍽

Verace Restaurant located at 312 Lakeshore Rd E

Two Oakville Italian restaurants have landed on OpenTable's list of Canada's 100 best patios for 2026. Verace Restaurant has now made the cut four years running, while Cucci joins the list for the first time this year.

The annual ranking draws from over a million verified reviews collected between April 2025 and March 2026. Co-owner Aleksandra Popovic says the recognition means a lot to the Verace team, who take pride in creating a warm atmosphere alongside authentic Italian food.

Three Burlington spots also made the list this year, including Spencer's at the Waterfront and newcomer DiMario's Trattoria.

Oakville Gears Up For World Cup 🎉

With Toronto hosting multiple FIFA World Cup matches next month, including Canada's opening game, Oakville is positioning itself as the place to stay, eat, and watch.

Visit Oakville has teamed up with dozens of local businesses to bring World Cup fever across town all summer. Restaurants like BLK Swan and Marine Tavern are hosting watch parties. Bakeries including Aveiro and Black Forest are rolling out soccer ball cookies. Dave & Buster's is launching a World Cup menu and ticketed events.

The pitch is proximity without the chaos, a calmer place to sleep and a lively place to watch, just a short GO ride from the stadium.

Oakville’s Warship Goes Viral 🌊

A popular YouTube channel called Yarnhub, known for animated films about real moments in history, recently featured HMCS Oakville in a dramatic Second World War story.

The channel has more than 3 million subscribers and brings viewers right into the action, which makes this a fun surprise for anyone who enjoys Oakville’s history.

The video tells the story of Oakville taking on German submarine U-94 in the Caribbean in August 1942. The Canadian corvette rammed the U-boat, opened fire, and sent sailors Hal Lawrence and Art Powell aboard in a daring boarding attempt. Check out the full video. 👇

Croskery's U-18 Worlds Rollercoaster 🏆

Oakville's Callum Croskery got the call to play for Team Canada at the U-18 World Hockey Championships in Slovakia just two days after his Soo Greyhounds were eliminated from the OHL playoffs. He was on a plane the next day.

Croskery was paired with team captain Keaton Verhoeff, a top-10 draft prospect, and scored a buzzer-beater goal against Sweden with milliseconds left in the second period to tie the game 2-2. But in the third period, he took a delay-of-game penalty that led to Sweden's game-winning powerplay goal, eliminating Canada from the tournament.

Croskery is now shifting focus to the NHL Draft combine in Buffalo on June 1, with the draft itself following on June 26. He's currently ranked 110th among North American skaters and projected to go in the second round.
