2026 Sunset Kino Film Festival | July 16 Screening
Sunset Kino film series screening on July 16 at 9:00 PM, programmed by Renaldo Walcott. As the sun sets over Lake Ontario, a curated program of films and video works by Canadian and international artists will be screened in Gairloch Gardens, one of Oakville's outdoor settings. The program builds on the current exhibition To Fall, Patiently by artist Ali Cherri and focuses on what emerges from ruins, featuring experimental video and film exploring persistence through fascism, occupation, war, and sickness.
Films screened: Dana Inkster, Welcome to Africville, 1999 (15 minutes); John Akomfrah, The Last Angel of History, 1996 (45 minutes); Cauleen Smith, H-E-L-L-O, 2019 (11 minutes); Tuan Andrew Nguyễn, The Boat People, 2020 (20 minutes).
Screenings are outdoors in Gairloch Gardens. Attendees should dress appropriately and bring seating and blankets. In the event of inclement weather, screenings will move indoors to the Studio, adjacent to the Gallery.
Oakville Galleries operates with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Corporation of the Town of Oakville.
