Fairy & Iron Rustic Faire Returns to Andrews' Scenic Acres on August 15 and 16

A Renaissance-style faire with a fantasy twist takes over Andrews' Scenic Acres in Milton on August 15 and 16, and the weekend is built around a story rather than a schedule.

Fairy & Iron Rustic Faire is in its third year. It is set in the fictional realm of Shadowmere, where the through line is a medieval take on The Bachelor, a prince's courting tale written by author Cassandra D'Alessandro and adapted for the grounds by the faire's storytelling lead, Finley Janleigh. Guests collect bits of gossip and photos for the faire's fictional newspaper, the Tattletale Times, for a chance to win a prize.

Seven interactive stations anchor the site, among them the Mystic Mercantile, the Town Armoury and the Performers' Plaza. Roaming musicians and dancers work the grounds, with performances from the Vaudevillian and Milton's own Knight School Inc. There is also a kids' activity area, a crafting station, food vendors and a long list of artists selling work.

The faire is run by Cool Aunt Creatives, whose founder and creative director, Lauren Martin, builds events for adults who want an excuse to drop the act. "We try to go for very playful niches," she said. "Things that allow adults to kind of let go and be themselves, be flawed and be messy and just have fun." Costume is optional. Street clothes are fine.
