Hand Made Crafts Market Returns to Bronte Creek on October 3

Christmas shopping starts early at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Local artisans set up near Parking Lot F on Saturday, October 3 for the third annual Hand Made Crafts Market, running 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Friends of Bronte Creek Provincial Park, who host the market, list woodwork, textiles, pottery, metal art, jewellery, painting and photography among the tables, and the vendor roster has run to henna tattoos, tinsmith work and forged ironwork as well. Everything on sale is made by the person selling it.

The Friends' own craft and tuck shop at Spruce Lane Farm, in the same Lot F, stays open until 4 p.m. with hot apple cider and apple blossoms, and takes cash, debit or credit. All of its profits go back into the park, paying for the projects the Friends run for visitors.

The one cost to plan for is the gate. Bronte Creek charges by the vehicle rather than the person, so a carload costs the same as a driver on their own: a daily permit is $21.00, or $16.75 for drivers 65 and over. Walking or cycling in is free.

Thinking about a table next year

The Friends rent four kinds of space: indoor with an electrical hookup, outdoor with a hookup, outdoor without, and a youth booth for crafters 14 and under whose work has to be their own. Vendors supply their own shelter, tables and chairs, and liability insurance is included in the rental. Applications go through the vendor form on the Friends' website, and they answer within a week or two.
