Oakville Is Looking for Culture Days Hosts
Culture Days runs September 18 to October 4 this year, and Oakville wants more people putting something on. The Town is inviting local businesses, organizations, artists and community groups to host an activity, and registration closes September 4.
Oakville has been the number one participating community in the country for four years running. Culture Days is a free national celebration of arts, culture and community, and the Town's point is that a host does not have to be an arts organization to take part. Low cost and simple counts.
Four things make an activity qualify. It has to be free for the public, interactive in some way (hands on, immersive or experiential), include a cultural element of any type, and take place between September 18 and October 4.
What counts as cultural is broad. Music, poetry, dance, theatre, film, comedy, storytelling, design, fashion, textiles, crafting, cuisine, heritage, history, sport, movement and wellness all fit. So does a workshop, a demonstration, an interactive tour, a performance or a collaboration with a local artist. The Town notes that some businesses are already planning something that qualifies.
Anyone stuck on an idea can work through it with the Town's Recreation and Culture team, which will also try to connect artists with businesses, venues and organizations looking to collaborate.
