Oakville Galleries Hosts a Drop-In Pumpkin Carving Day Saturday
Carving tools, a studio to make a mess in, hot chocolate and Halloween movies on a big screen are all waiting at Gairloch Gardens this Saturday. The one thing Oakville Galleries is not supplying is the pumpkin.
Family Saturdays: Pumpkin Carving runs Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Road East, about two kilometres east of downtown. It is drop-in style, so there is no set start time and no experience needed. The gallery lists the workshop as free, with pre-registration recommended but not required.
Carving tools are provided, and a pumpkin is the only thing visitors need to bring. Kids who want a second project can work the Halloween craft station, and family Halloween favourites play on the big screen while everyone carves.
A few practical notes from the gallery. Only so many people fit in the education centre at once, and instructors can pause admission if the space fills up or materials run out, so you may be asked to come back in fifteen minutes. Aprons and smocks are not provided, so wear something you do not mind getting pumpkin on. A box or a reusable bag makes the trip home with a finished jack-o-lantern much easier.
