Oakville GO Station Upgrades: Platform Closures and Parking Changes Start in August
If you catch the train at Oakville GO, the station is going to look different for a while. Metrolinx has moved its rebuild of the station into the next phase, and the change riders notice first arrives the week of August 3: a temporary Platform 1 opens while the original Platform 1 closes for construction. To reach it, you go through the pedestrian tunnels and follow the new signage on your way to the train.
This is the busiest stop on the Lakeshore West line, with more than 10,270 riders on an average day. Behind Union Station, it is the second busiest in the entire GO network. The work is part of Metrolinx's GO Expansion program, the plan to bring faster, all-day service across the region, and the station is being rebuilt in stages so it can stay open the whole way through.
What's being built
- Refurbished platforms with new canopies, shelters and mini-platforms
- A new accessible pedestrian bridge with four elevators and staircases linking the platforms to parking
- Six more bus platforms with new shelters and digital signage
- Resurfaced parking lots and a new secured bike shelter
- A full interior and exterior refresh of the station building
If you drive to the station
Some of the disruption is already here. The southeast pick-up and drop-off area is closed, so anyone dropping off or grabbing a passenger should use the north or southwest zones instead. That work runs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is expected to finish in September.
Parking is tighter, too. 100 spaces in the north lot are out of service, and another 40 close once the Platform 1 work starts. The Trafalgar Road entrance to the parking garage is shut, so use the Cornwall Road entrance to get in. Metrolinx says there is still parking in the other lots and the garage.
There is no firm completion date on the full transformation yet, but the phased plan means the trains keep running while it comes together. Until the signage settles, give yourself a few extra minutes at the station.
