Oakvillegreen needs volunteers for its pollinator gardens and fall tree plantings
The pollinator gardens in Oakville's parks are planted, weeded and mulched by residents who sign up online. Oakvillegreen Conservation Association runs the events, they are free to join, and two garden mornings are left this season.
Volunteers meet on Tuesday mornings at the charity's nine pollinator gardens. August 11 is at Kingsford Gardens, 2480 Sherwood Heights Drive, and August 18 is at Glen Abbey, 1415 Third Line. Both run 9:30 to 11am.
Three tree plantings this fall
The planting season picks up again in late September, each session from 10am to noon:
- Buttonbush Woods, September 26
- Arbourview Park, October 17
- Valleyridge Park, October 24
They go ahead rain or shine, and high school students earn volunteer hours for the time. There is also a family walk on September 10 at 6pm to see Oakville's giant white pines, some of which are older than the town.
