Oakville Half Marathon Takes Over Lakeshore Road on October 4
Hundreds of runners will be moving down Lakeshore Road West on Sunday, October 4, when the Oakville Half Marathon starts its morning at Shell Park. The 21.1 km race goes at 7:30 a.m., the 10 km at 7:50 a.m. and the 5 km at 8 a.m.
The course leaves Shell Park, turns onto Lakeshore, threads through the neighbourhoods south of the road, loops around Tannery Park and comes back to Shell Park to finish. It is flat and largely shaded, which is the reason people pick it to chase a personal best, and pace bunnies will be running the half marathon. Aid stations with water and electrolyte drink sit roughly every 3 km, and the cut-off is three and a half hours after the half marathon starts. Every finisher gets a shirt and a medal. No dogs or strollers in any of the three races.
Runners should sort out parking before Sunday, because there is no race day parking at Shell Park. The lot to use is Bronte GO, with a free shuttle running to the race site from 5:30 a.m. and the last bus leaving Shell Park at 11:50 a.m. Spectators are welcome on the shuttle as well.
Everyone else driving that morning should plan around the closures, which begin at 6 a.m. and are monitored by Halton Regional Police and town bylaw officers. Lakeshore Road West shuts between Great Lakes Boulevard and Bronte Road from 6 to 11 a.m., and between Third Line and Dorval Drive from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Bronte Road, Ontario Street, Marine Drive, Kerr Street south of Lakeshore and several residential streets near Tannery Park all close for part of the morning. Temporary no-parking signs along the course are enforced from 12:01 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday only, and Oakville Transit is detouring the routes that run through the race route.

Race kits, bib and timing chip included, have to be picked up ahead of time. The expo runs Saturday, October 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Suites Bronte, 2525 Wyecroft Road. Registration stays open until October 3 at $171.38 for the half, $98.10 for the 10 km and $81.18 for the 5 km.
Watching costs nothing. Find a spot on Lakeshore or down by Tannery Park and make some noise for the back of the pack!
