Heroes On Ice Classic Returns to Oakville on October 8

Police officers and firefighters will line up against each other at Sixteen Mile Creek Sports Arena on Thursday, October 8. The Heroes On Ice Classic comes back for a second year in town, Team Police against Team Firefighter, and 100 per cent of the proceeds go to Food4Kids Halton.

The first Oakville game, played October 2 last year, drew more than 1,200 people and raised over $15,000 to fight child hunger. Organisers also handed out more than 10,000 hockey cards to kids in the stands. They are aiming higher this year.

Heroes On Ice is a not-for-profit run entirely by volunteers, and the Oakville game is one stop on a national series of police versus firefighter matches. The format stays the same wherever it goes: a local rivalry on the ice, a local charity keeping every dollar.

Because the game runs during the day, organisers pitch it to elementary schools as a field trip, and high school students can pick up volunteer hours by helping run the event. Anyone who wants to play, attend or pitch in can get in touch with the organisers directly.
