No GO Trains at Oakville This Weekend as Lakeshore West Closes

Anyone counting on a GO train out of Oakville this weekend needs a different plan. From Saturday, October 24 until the end of service on Sunday, October 25, there are no trains between Aldershot GO and Union Station, which takes Oakville GO off the train map for two days.

Trains keep running on the western end of the line, between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO. In their place, GO replacement buses stop at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville and Clarkson and run direct to the Union Station Bus Terminal. Metrolinx says the track closures are needed for major upgrades that support faster and more frequent service later on.

Four stations lose GO Transit service altogether for the weekend: Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico and Exhibition. Riders at those stops are being pointed to local transit instead. Appleby and Bronte GO keep only their regular early morning and late evening buses, with no service in the hours between.

Friday, October 23 brings some late night adjustments of its own. Long Branch GO is a separate problem again: construction has closed the station to pedestrians and shut its parking lot from October 23 to 26, so Metrolinx is sending those riders to Port Credit or Mimico.

Before you travel

Replacement buses do not always leave at the old train times, so check the schedule for your trip before heading out. The full list of Lakeshore West changes and alternate routes is on the GO Transit construction notice for the line.
