Lions Valley Park's Parking Lot Is Closed for Paving Until September 3
Anyone heading to Lions Valley Park for a late-summer picnic needs a new plan for parking. The town closed the park driveway and parking lot on Aug. 23 so crews could pave both, and vehicles cannot use either one until the work wraps up.
The closure runs from Aug. 23 through Aug. 28, then again from Monday, Aug. 31 through Thursday, Sept. 3, which is the target date to have it all finished. The town says the driveway and lot could reopen sooner if the paving and line painting are done early.
The trails are a different story. Walkers can still get into the valley through the trail entrances scattered around Sixteen Mile Creek, so the ravine hike is still on if you park somewhere else and come in on foot. Entering or leaving through the parking lot or driveway is not permitted while the paving is going on.
Picnic pavilions are out for now. Staff are not taking pavilion bookings for the duration of the project. The Knox Church lot next door, which sometimes takes overflow parking, is being paved during the same stretch.
If you still want to walk it
Come in on foot through one of the Sixteen Mile Creek trail entrances instead of the parking lot. Pavilion bookings open back up once the paving and line painting are done, with Sept. 3 as the target.
