Oakville's Luke Evangelista Traded to the New Jersey Devils
Oakville's Luke Evangelista is a New Jersey Devil. The Nashville Predators traded the forward in a late-night deal on Tuesday, sending him east in exchange for a first and a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft.
The move caught him off guard. Evangelista was packed and heading back to Nashville on Tuesday morning when his agent warned him something might be happening. "It was pretty much a shock," he told reporters in New Jersey the next day.
He leaves Nashville with 45 goals and 97 assists across his time there, including 56 points last season. In New Jersey he joins a forward group with Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt, which suits a player who is more playmaker than finisher.
The timing matters for him. His contract runs out at the end of this season, so a productive year in the top six and on the power play would land in the middle of a rising salary cap. Training camp opens in a little over two weeks.
The trade
Nashville sends Luke Evangelista to New Jersey. New Jersey sends a 2028 first-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to Nashville.
