North Oakville Seniors Centre Gets $55,000 in Provincial Funding
Older adults in north Oakville are getting more to do close to home. The new North Oakville Seniors Active Living Centre, inside the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex at 3070 Neyagawa Boulevard, has landed a $55,000 provincial grant to run programs for seniors across Halton.
The money covers a full slate of drop-in activities: fitness classes pitched at a range of abilities, card and board games, and wellness sessions, plus special events, holiday celebrations and cultural programming through the year.
The Friendship Luncheon
One program stands out: a shared, nutritious meal in a welcoming setting where seniors can make friends, ease social isolation, and connect with community supports. It's the kind of low-key, regular gathering these centres are built around.
Oakville's grant is one slice of a $23 million provincial investment in 416 Seniors Active Living Centres across Ontario, the largest such investment in the province's history. Oakville North-Burlington MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos announced the local share on Thursday.
The centre sits inside the Sixteen Mile complex that opened this spring, and programs run year-round. Worth a look if there's a senior in your life who'd like a few more reasons to get out of the house.
