September Is Smart Commute Month in Oakville
The Town of Oakville is asking residents to leave the car at home at least some of the time this month. Smart Commute Month runs through September and covers walking, cycling, transit and carpooling to work, school or anywhere else.
Oakville has 20 public transit routes, plus school routes, ride-on-demand and care-A-van specialized transit, and a wide network of trails and bike lanes. The Smart Commute app plans trips across those options and helps find carpool partners.
Logging trips on the app tracks distance covered and carbon saved. Every eligible trip logged during September is also an entry for a $100 e-gift card.
Two lunch-hour webinars are part of the month. Safe Travels runs Thursday, September 10 from noon to 1 p.m., and Share Your Ride: Real Stories, Real Savings runs Thursday, September 24 at the same time.
Where to start
Contest details, webinar registration and trip planning tools are on the town's Smart Commute Month page at oakville.ca. The app is free to download.
