William Halton Parkway Bridge Misses Another Deadline

Drivers crossing north Oakville still cannot use the William Halton Parkway end to end, and Halton Region will not say when that changes. The bridge over Sixteen Mile Creek between Harasym Trail and Fourth Line is the final piece of the corridor, and it has now missed a June 2026 completion date with no new one announced.

The extension project began in 2018 to give the north end a new east and west route as the area filled in. The parkway sits south of Highway 407 and north of Dundas Street, and it already carries traffic from Bronte Road to Harasym Trail and from Fourth Line to Ninth Line. Everything works except the middle.

Until the bridge opens, anyone travelling east has to turn off at Third Line, and anyone travelling west has to turn off at Neyagawa Boulevard.

What the region says

"The project is nearing completion," said Lee Anne Jones, Halton Region's commissioner of public works. "The roads have been constructed, and the contractor is finalizing the remaining work on the bridge, including final testing and inspections."

This is the second deadline to pass. A 2021 construction update set the finish at 2024. A December 2024 update pushed it to June 2026, citing unanticipated construction delays. June came and went. The region says more time is needed to meet its standards and that a revised date will come in an upcoming project update. Asked directly whether the bridge would open before the end of the year, the region declined to make that commitment.

The budget has held. The work remains inside the approved $79.9 million contract value, with about 95 per cent of that spent to date, and the region says the contractor is still responsible for finishing every outstanding item under the contract.
