Oakville Teens Can Apply to Paint a New Mural at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex
One of the busiest buildings in town is about to get a wall worth looking at. The Town of Oakville and the Oakville Youth Action Committee are recruiting 12 young artists to design and paint a large indoor mural at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex this fall.
The Youth Mural Project is open to teens aged 13 to 17, and no art experience is needed. Local artist Sima Naseem mentors the group through the whole thing, from design workshops to the last coat of paint. The program is free, and participants earn 42 volunteer hours, which covers most of the 40 hours the province requires for a high school diploma.
This is the fourth year of the project. Past groups painted Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre in 2024, River Oaks Community Centre in 2025, and Iroquois Ridge Community Centre earlier this year. Each mural stayed on the wall as public art, which means the work outlasts the program by years.
Applications are open online until Monday, August 31. The town's call for submissions page has the full details, including the eligibility rules and the Sunday workshop schedule that runs from October through March.

The Oakville Youth Action Committee, which runs the mural project with the town, is taking applications of its own until August 10 for youth aged 13 to 18. Both forms live on the town's youth pages.
