2026 Sunset Kino Film Festival Premiere: Films by Ali Cherri
Sunset Kino, an outdoor avant-garde film festival, opens Thursday, June 25th at 8:30 PM at Gairloch Gardens in Oakville with a curated program of films and video works by artist Ali Cherri. The festival runs for four weeks under the summer sky, with screenings as the sun sets over Lake Ontario.
This opening program features six works by Cherri, programmed by Séamus Kealy, presented in dialogue with his solo exhibition To Fall, Patiently. The program explores the theme In Ruins and includes Pipe Dreams (2011, 7 mins), Un Cercle autour du Soleil (2005, 15 mins), The Disquiet (2013, 20 mins), The Digger (2015, 24 mins), Somniculus (2015, 15 mins), and The Watchman (2023, 26 mins).
All screenings are outdoors in Gairloch Gardens. Attendees should dress appropriately and bring seating and blankets. In the event of inclement weather, screenings will move indoors to the Studio, adjacent to the Gallery.
Sunset Kino is presented by Oakville Galleries, which operates with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Corporation of the Town of Oakville.
