Oakville's Kane Cloutier Scores Twice as Canada White Beats Sweden 7-2
Kane Cloutier has scored, in his own words, "quite a few" goals at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex over his career. He added two more on Tuesday night, in front of family and friends, as Canada White beat Sweden 7-2 at the U17 World Hockey Challenge.
Both goals came in the first period. The first was a wraparound that put Canada White up 2-1, and the second landed in the dying seconds of the period to make it 4-1. Cloutier was the first overall pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection and plays his club hockey for the Oshawa Generals.
"I had a lot of family here tonight," Cloutier said. "They all came to watch me, and it was pretty cool to get the first one there and get the monkey off my back."
Head coach Dylan Smoskowitz had moved him to the team's number two centre spot for the game, a change meant to let him use his feet and get to the middle of the ice instead of getting landlocked along the boards. "A lot of experiments don't work and we got lucky that one did," Smoskowitz said. On Cloutier himself: "He has skill galore but I thought Kane tonight, his compete level was off the charts."
The result was Canada White's first win of the tournament after an opening loss to Czechia. Knockout rounds began Thursday and the gold medal game goes this weekend. The schedule is on the Oakville Rangers tournament page.
