Oakville Food Marketplace Locado Reschedules Its Towne Square Picnic to September 12

Locado, an Oakville online marketplace that sells food from small Ontario farms and bakeries, has a new date for its Towne Square picnic. The August 2 event was cancelled because of rain. It now runs Saturday, September 12 from 11am to 2pm.

The company pre-launched in March and delivers weekly across Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Mississauga and parts of the west GTA. Nicholas "Nico" Mingorance-Geraldo and Madison Lo, two Western University software engineering grads, built the platform after Nico spent months trying to buy food straight from farms the way his family used to.

The ordering cycle is what separates it from a grocery run. Orders placed before Sunday at 8pm arrive by Thursday night, timed so producers harvest, bake and prep after the order comes in instead of pulling something off a shelf. Locado says it visits the farms and tries every product before listing it.

September keeps the plan the original date had: live performances through the afternoon, a farm to table food truck stocked from Locado's own vendors, a market of Ontario producers and makers, local artists showing their work, and yard games for all ages.
