Oakville Rangers Play Laser Tag on Their Own Ice

The Oakville Rangers spent an ice slot playing laser tag. GAMEYARD, a Halton based mobile laser tag company, built a course on the rink surface, the players and coaches ran it, and the video has been circulating since.

The idea arrived by phone. A coach in Innisfil had seen a clip of laser tag on ice from Russia and asked about it. "We tried to get confirmation from the town of Innisfil but they rejected us, so we put the idea as a blog post on our website and then we had another call within a week from somebody in Oakville for the Oakville Rangers team," founder Dr. Farhad Shiri said.

What catches people off guard is how fast the course goes up. A full setup is on the ice in about 15 minutes, not the long build most people picture. "It's very quick, they make the courses very agile and then we start playing," Shiri said.

GAMEYARD has run the ice version close to 40 times, and calls have come in from other cities and arenas since the Oakville videos spread. Not every municipality is convinced: Milton has turned the events down several times over safety. Shiri's answer is that the game is non contact with no projectiles, and in his words "10 times more safe than an actual hockey game".
