Falgarwood Pool in Oakville Gets a $125,000 Accessibility Upgrade

Falgarwood Pool is getting an accessibility overhaul this fall, paid for with $125,000 from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund. The Town of Oakville will put the money toward a portable pool lift and new outdoor showers with step-free access at the outdoor pool on Gainsborough Drive.

The town is funding a second set of renovations on top of that: a new slip-resistant pool deck, step-free access into the changerooms, and tactile striping around the edge of the pool so swimmers can feel where the water starts.

Swimmers have already seen part of the work. Upgrades finished earlier this year include a wider entry walkway, an accessible service counter and redesigned changerooms.

Construction on the rest starts in the fall, once the pool closes for the season after Labour Day. When it is finished, Falgarwood will match Wedgewood Pool for accessibility, and both outdoor pools will meet the standards required under the Ontario Building Code and AODA.

Falgarwood sits at 1349 Gainsborough Drive, was built in 1972, and is one of five outdoor pools in Oakville.

Nothing changes for swimmers before then. The pool stays open for the rest of the summer season, and the work starts once it closes.
