Oakville Players Stage A Few Good Men, November 5 to 15

The courtroom scene most people know from the 1992 film started on a stage, and it is back on one this week. The Oakville Players are giving Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men 10 performances at the Queen Elizabeth Park Black Box Theatre between Thursday, November 5 and Sunday, November 15.

The play follows a group of military lawyers assigned to defend two Marines at Guantanamo Bay. During the trial they uncover a high level conspiracy designed to eliminate weaker soldiers in the name of patriotism. Sorkin wrote it for Broadway first, and the film came after. In the Oakville production Chris Reid takes the Colonel Jessep role and Andy Ingram plays Daniel Kaffee, the two parts Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise made famous on screen.

There are two ways to book. Standard seating is available for all 10 performances, and the company is also running its first dinner and show package on Saturday, November 7, with the meal served from 6:00 pm to 7:45 pm across the hall from the theatre. Palma Pasta is catering: a choice of meat or vegetable lasagna, a garden salad and dinner roll, a dessert, a drink, and coffee or tea. The dinner package is capped at 100 guests and runs that one night only, so it is the piece most likely to go first.

Before you go

Each performance seats 150. There is a 20 minute intermission with snacks and refreshments for sale, parking at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre is free, and both the theatre and the seating are on the main level.

Dates, times and seats are on the production's booking page. Ten nights is a decent run for community theatre, but the Saturday dinner seats are the ones with a hard number attached.
