Swiss Chalet and Harvey's on Cross Avenue Close After 20 Years

The Swiss Chalet and Harvey's on Cross Avenue, across from Oakville GO station, have closed after more than 20 years. Longtime customers were caught off guard, and many say they never got the chance to say goodbye to staff who had worked there for years.

A note at the drive-thru points people to three other Oakville locations, but the Cross Avenue spot is done. The closure ties into the Midtown Oakville Transit-Oriented Community project, one of the largest redevelopments in the town's history.

The plan calls for 11 high-rise towers and roughly 6,880 residential units on the lands around Cross Avenue and Argus Road. The nearby McDonald's and other commercial properties are expected to be affected as well.

None of this happens overnight. The redevelopment is expected to take decades, with construction phased over time, so the corner will look like a work in progress for a while yet.
