Oakville Public Library's BookTalk, Live! Returns November 5

Three of the people who decide which books Canadian publishers push next will be on a stage in Oakville on Thursday, November 5, running through what is about to come out. BookTalk, Live! is the Oakville Public Library's annual preview night, and it is a chance to hear about titles well before they start showing up on BookTok.

The speakers come from two of the larger houses in the country. Jamie Broadhurst, vice-president of marketing at Raincoast Books, has spent more than 25 years in publishing as a bookseller, marketer, educator and industry advocate. Stephanie Sinclair is publisher of McClelland & Stewart and a vice-president at Penguin Random House Canada. Melody Tacit manages library and academic sales for Penguin Random House Canada, working with libraries and academic institutions across the country.

Doors open at 6 p.m. in the Rehearsal Hall at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre on Bridge Road, the presentation starts at 7 p.m., and a reception follows at 8:20 p.m. There is a cash wine bar and complimentary charcuterie, plus a pop-up book sale run by the Friends of Oakville Public Library, so leave a bit of room in your bag.

Tickets are $40, and proceeds go to the library's programming for older adults. The evening is for ages 18 and up. This year's sponsors are the Royal Bank of Canada's Lakeshore branch and Oakview Funeral Home.
