Oakville's 2026 Election Results Are Official, With Turnout at 34 Per Cent
Turnout in Oakville's municipal election climbed about six percentage points over the last one, and the count is now final. The Town Clerk certified the results of the October 26 vote on October 27, confirming Jeff Knoll as mayor along with every council seat and school board trustee.
A total of 60,638 ballots were cast, advance voting included, for a turnout of 34.26 per cent. Turnout in 2022 was 28.30 per cent. There were also 53 declined or rejected ballots.
Knoll won the mayor's race with 21,866 votes, ahead of Sean O'Meara at 13,567, outgoing mayor Rob Burton at 12,254, Julia Hanna at 10,642 and Arvind Choudhary at 1,887. The result brings Burton's 20 years as mayor to an end.
Three regional council seats were settled without a contest, with Jonathan McNeice in Ward 1, Janet Haslett-Theall in Ward 3 and Tom Adams in Ward 6 all acclaimed. The certified figures match the unofficial numbers released on election night.
The new four-year term runs from November 16, 2026 to November 15, 2030. Council's inaugural meeting is Monday, November 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall, where members take their oath of office and the term officially starts.
