Let’s work together.

New Pickleball Spot in Town 🏓

A new indoor pickleball hub is set to open its doors in Oakville this spring, with Pickleplex Social Club officially launching on April 24.

Located at 3272 S Service Rd W, the facility promises state-of-the-art indoor courts along with open play, leagues, lessons, and clinics designed for all skill levels.

The space is also geared toward community events and social play, adding another recreational option for both Oakville residents. With pickleball’s popularity continuing to surge, this new venue is stepping in at just the right time to meet demand across the area.

Running For Council? 🗳️

If you’ve ever considered running for office, Halton Region is offering a chance to learn what the role really involves before taking the leap.

A virtual session on April 21 from 6-8:30pm will bring together Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills to give residents a clear look at life on council.

The session features municipal solicitor John Mascarin and former elected official Kelly Linton, covering responsibilities, time commitments, and the realities of public service. With the municipal election set for Oct. 26, it’s a practical first step for anyone who is thinking of getting involved.

Majority Back Youth Social Ban 📱

A new Angus Reid Institute survey finds about three-quarters of Canadians support banning youth under 16 from major social media platforms, echoing recent moves in countries like Australia. The findings come as concerns continue to grow around how platforms are designed and used by younger audiences.

Nearly all respondents, 94 per cent, expressed concern about social media’s impact on mental health, along with issues like addiction, misinformation, and cyberbullying. At the same time, many Canadians still see parents as primarily responsible for managing teens’ online activity, highlighting an ongoing balance between regulation and personal responsibility.

Food Bank Expands 🥫

Fare Share Food Bank has moved into a significantly larger space at 1097 North Service Rd. E., nearly doubling its footprint to keep up with growing demand. The move comes after the organization outgrew its former Speers Road location, as the number of families served has surged in recent years.

President Stephen Rowe says the food bank supported about 300 families per month before COVID-19, compared to 940 families this past December. The new warehouse space allows for more storage and includes a waiting area for clients, a meaningful upgrade from the previous setup where people often had to wait outside.
