DINNER CLUB: LAST CALL 🍽️

A quick reminder that tomorrow (Saturday) at 6:30pm is the deadline to sign up for the first ever Oakville Digest Dinner Club.

Dinner is this upcoming Tuesday March 24th at 6:30pm.

A huge thank you to everyone who has signed up already! We have 11 tables booked across 11 restaurants downtown, with a few more tables hopefully on the way :)

This is shaping up to be a super fun night. We hope everybody makes it to the (optional) afterparty following your dinners to keep the excitement going. 🥂

If you have been on the fence and have not pulled the trigger yet, this is your sign….

Grab your seat at the table!

Bronte Canada Day Debate 🇨🇦

There’s a bit of back-and-forth happening around Bronte’s Canada Day plans.

Ward 5 councillor Jeff Knoll has launched a petition asking Oakville council to reconsider its decision to cancel the 2026 celebration at Bronte Waterfront Park. The event was called off last month over safety concerns, particularly involving large groups of youth setting off fireworks near crowds.

Some councillors say they’d need to see a solid safety plan before bringing it back, while others are pointing out ongoing risks and gaps in enforcement.

The topic is expected to come up again soon, with community input and possible alternatives also being discussed.

Calling Young Artists 🎨

If you’ve got a creative student at home, this one’s for you.

The Art Canada Institute’s student challenge is back, and it’s all about creating an original piece of art inspired by Canada. That could mean painting, drawing, or mixed media, based on themes like landscapes, sports, daily life, portraits, or even designing your own symbol of Canada.

It’s open to grades 7 to 12, and selected students will have their work shown at Art Toronto this fall, plus a chance at cash prizes.

Deadline to submit is April 30, so there’s still time to get started.

A Project Still in Pause 🐕

A $15,000 donation from the Georgetown Lions Club is helping move Oakville’s Dog Guides project a bit closer to restarting construction.

The new facility, planned as a larger, purpose-built training centre, is meant to replace the current site and allow more dog guides to be trained each year, reducing wait times for people with disabilities.

Construction was about 55 per cent complete before being paused due to funding gaps, part of a broader $20 million shortfall on the roughly $80 million project.

Fundraising efforts are still ongoing, but there’s no confirmed date yet for when work will resume.

Ritchie Shines at Home 🏒

A familiar name had a big moment in Toronto this week.

Oakville’s own Calum Ritchie scored a goal and added an assist as the New York Islanders beat the Maple Leafs 3-1. His goal came early on the power play, and he later helped set up another, giving him a two-point night.

Ritchie called the experience “special,” especially hearing the national anthem while standing on the blue line in front of a hometown crowd.

It was a meaningful night for the rookie, playing in front of friends and family and hitting another milestone in his growing NHL career.
