Bronte Harbour Classic This Month 🎊

Oakville’s waterfront is getting a new Father’s Day tradition on Sunday, June 21, with the inaugural Mercedes-Benz Oakville Bronte Harbour Classic at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park.

The day starts with the sold-out Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run at 8am, where every young runner earns a finisher medal, followed by a chip-timed 5K at 8:30am starting and finishing at Bronte Harbour Marina. The flat waterfront course welcomes runners, walkers, strollers, and first-timers, with medals, prizes, and a few serious bragging rights on the line.

The race rolls straight into a free Father’s Day Waterfront Festival running until 3pm, with live music, a Kids Zone, food trucks, a Nickel Brook beer garden, and over 50 vendors from across the GTA. Proceeds support the Oakville Dads Community Fund, with 100% of race donations staying in Oakville for local causes. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, cheering from the sidelines, or just treating Dad to a harbour day, Bronte will be the place to be.

Bronte BIA

Eighty newly designed Muskoka chairs are now set up along Bronte's waterfront as part of this year's At Home in Bronte public art project.

Now in its ninth season, the initiative invited local artists, families, schools, and businesses to spend months designing and painting the iconic wooden chairs, turning the lakeside into an outdoor gallery. Each chair reflects its creator's take on storytelling, community, or just plain lakeside charm.

"Each chair tells a story, not only through its design, but through the dedication of the people who created it," says Kylie Wilson, Executive Director of the Bronte BIA, which organizes the annual project.

The chairs have been a signature Bronte feature since 2017 and draw both residents and visitors year-round.

Bronte Pool 7 Years Closed 🏊

The outdoor pool at Bronte Creek Provincial Park will stay closed for another summer, pushing the shutdown into its seventh year. The 1.8-acre pool, billed as one of Canada's largest, hasn't opened since the pandemic started in 2020.

The province says the pool needs major repairs and upgrades to meet health and safety standards, but officials won't say when construction will start or give a reopening date. Weeds are poking through the drained pool's foundation, and as of early June, no work appears to have taken place since the closure.

Local families are frustrated by the lack of updates. One resident who moved here three years ago thought it would reopen the next season, but it's stayed shut.

Future of Bronte’s Cudmore House 🏛

Photo from realtor.ca

The owner of the Cudmore House, a 1920s Dutch Colonial Revival home at 3175 Lakeshore Road West, has applied to remove its heritage designation under the Ontario Heritage Act. The property was designated by Oakville council in 2024 for its architecture and ties to the Cudmore family, who farmed the land and ran the Cudmore Market for nearly a century.

Owner Sandy Cudmore says the restrictions have complicated efforts to sell the home, which is now listed for nearly $1.6 million. She argues the designation discourages buyers and limits alterations on the century-old farmhouse.

Residents have until July 3 to submit written objections to the Town Clerk. The Heritage Oakville Advisory Committee reviews the application July 28, with town council making a final decision August 10.

Special Athletics Track Meet Friday 🏆

More than 620 students with diverse physical and developmental abilities from across Halton are heading to Garth Webb Secondary School in Oakville this Friday for the 39th annual Special Athletics Track Meet.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and includes 100-metre races, basketball, soccer, bowling, obstacle courses, and sensory stations. When the meet first launched in 1987, just 12 athletes took part.

The Oodenawi Public School drum line will perform during the parade, and the Optimist clubs of Halton Hills, Milton, Oakville, and Burlington are providing a barbecue lunch for participants.
