Lakeshore Festival Lineup Drops 🎶
The debut Lakeshore Music and Arts Festival has announced its full two-day lineup for Spencer Smith Park in Burlington, with Walk Off The Earth headlining Saturday and The Trews closing Sunday. The new festival replaces the longtime Sound of Music Festival but keeps the same Father's Day weekend slot.
Organizers say they've heard from locals who want the event to stay true to its roots. Carnival rides, food trucks, and the traditional marching band parade will all return. Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward called the parade, which the city runs separately, a critical piece of the festival's 40-year legacy.
The festival runs June 20 to 21 at Spencer Smith Park, with downtown hotels and restaurants expecting the usual Father's Day weekend tourism bump.
Burloak Closes for Rail Work 🚧

City of Burlington
A stretch of Burloak Drive closed last Thursday night and won't reopen until June 1 as Metrolinx works to raise the rail crossing above street level. The closure runs between Harvester Road and Prince William Drive on the Burlington side, or Wyecroft Road to Superior Court on the Oakville side.
The 10-day shutdown is needed to install signal arms and shift three rail tracks onto the new bridge overhead. Lakeshore West trains started using the bridge yesterday, with the final track shifting after this weekend.
GO trains ran with bus connections over the long weekend and will do so again this coming weekend, with buses stopping at Burlington, Oakville, and Clarkson GO stations before riders transfer to the Kitchener line at Bramalea. The full project wraps in 2027.
North Oakville Gets Commercial Blueprint 🏗
Oakville council has officially approved a new plan to bring more shops, services, and everyday amenities to North Oakville East, aiming to make the area more walkable and less car-dependent as development continues north of Dundas Street.
The Official Plan Amendment, passed earlier this week, lays out where commercial space can be built and what it should look like. The goal is compact, mixed-use neighbourhoods where residents can walk to a coffee shop, grocery store, or pharmacy instead of driving across town.
The plan introduces new Commercial Nodes and refines existing Activity Nodes throughout the study area, with clearer design expectations and phased development timelines to help organize future growth.

BU Cafe Celebrates Grand Opening 🏪

From Mayor Burton’s Instagram
BU Cafe & Market held its official ribbon cutting ceremony this week, five months after opening at 77 Lakeshore Road West in downtown Oakville. Mayor Rob Burton, Ward 2 Councillor Ray Chisholm, and MPP Stephen Crawford joined the celebration.
Owner Karen Drexler and her son Jacob Stretton opened the cafe with a mission: creating a space where people with disabilities can work and learn the food business. Stretton, who has Down syndrome, struggled to find work after turning 18. He started BU Candles during the pandemic, but his real dream was to be a barista.
The cafe replaced the former Oak Gallery Cafe earlier this year. Drexler says the vision has been 10 years in the making, and the community support means everything.
Special Athletics Track Meet Returns 🏆
More than 620 students with special education needs are set to compete at the 39th annual Special Athletics Track Meet on June 12 at Garth Webb Secondary School. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.
Students will participate in 100-metre races, basketball, T-ball, soccer, bowling, obstacle courses, and sensory stations. It's a substantial jump from the 12 athletes who took part when the event first launched in 1987.
The Oodenawi Public School drum line will perform during the parade, and local Optimist clubs are providing a barbecue lunch. Coaches, staff, family members, and volunteers will be on hand to cheer the athletes on throughout the day.
