Together With Valencia Theater Seating!

This Mother's Day, give her a chair she'll actually sink into.

The Milo Sheepskin Finish Swivel Reclining Chair is built for new moms. Soft sheepskin-style fabric, swivel and glide motion, and power recline make 3 a.m. feedings less brutal. The fabric wipes clean, the cushions hold up, and there's a USB port built in.

For moms and grandmothers who want something more elevated, the Laisha Leather Swivel Reclining Chair is upholstered in Italian Nappa top grain leather over a hardwood frame. Power recline, smooth swivel, and an adjustable headrest let her find her spot and stay there.

New 27-Tower Community Proposal 🏗

Rendering of the design by BDP Quadrangle for Westerkirk Capital

A HUGE new development has just been proposed for Oakville.

A developer has filed plans to build 27 residential and mixed-use buildings on a 50-acre site at Burnhamthorpe Road East and Trafalgar Road, currently home to the Vic Hadfield Golf & Learning Centre. The proposal from Westerkirk Capital would add 6,420 apartments across 12 development blocks, with towers ranging from 6 to 30 storeys.

The tallest buildings would rise near the Trafalgar and Burnhamthorpe intersection, stepping down toward planned parkland to the south and east. Retail space would include a grocery store and large-format shops anchoring the northwest corner.

The plans also call for a new internal street grid centred around a public plaza called The Square, with shops and patios woven throughout. Most parking would be built underground.

The development news for Oakville don’t ever seem to stop, and this might be the biggest yet.

Sixth Line Gets Affordable Housing 🏗

View of the proposed development from MHBC

Speaking of development news, here is some more:

Oakville council has officially approved a new six-storey rental building at 1493 Sixth Line, bringing 190 affordable units to the neighbourhood. All of the apartments will be affordable rentals, with 57 fully accessible and 35 deeply affordable for the lowest-income households.

About 20 units are expected to go to Community Living Oakville clients. The developer is also partnering with Home Suite Hope, Halton Women's Place, and the Oakville Senior Citizens Residence to provide wrap-around services alongside stable housing.

Not surprisingly, there has been some local push back. Some nearby residents are worried about added traffic near Munn's Public School and feel the building's height doesn't fit the surrounding townhouses and single-detached homes.

Native Plants Push Gains Steam 🌳

A local grassroots group is urging Halton gardeners to swap popular non-native plants for species that evolved here, arguing the shift would give pollinators and other wildlife a better shot at survival.

Grow Native Halton, founded two years ago, says invasive favourites like hydrangeas and burning bush can be replaced by similar-looking natives like New England asters or highbush cranberry. Oak trees and milkweeds are also on the list of native options that help butterfly and caterpillar populations thrive.

The issue with invasive species, according to member Karl Vanaselja, is they crowd out plants that local bees and insects are accustomed to, leaving pollinators worse off.

The group is also pushing for a federal ban on rodenticides used on Ontario farms. Their petition has topped 1,500 signatures and has backing from Green Party leader Elizabeth May.

Stuart Drafted by Blue Bombers 🏆

Brandi Ireland-Keus | McMaster Football

Oakville native Ethan Stuart is heading to the CFL after being selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the fourth round, 33rd overall, in last week's draft.

Stuart spent the past four seasons at McMaster as a defensive back, racking up 80 solo tackles across 35 games. He didn't start playing football until his senior year at Iroquois Ridge High School, when a coach encouraged him to send highlight tapes to Ontario universities.

He's currently at training camp trying to earn a roster spot, likely starting on special teams. Winnipeg's first preseason game is May 23 against Saskatchewan, with the regular season opener set for June 4 against Montreal.

Youth Market Takes Over QEPC 🎨

Dozens of young entrepreneurs between ages 11 and 17 set up shop at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre this past Saturday, selling everything from watercolour cards to build-your-own kits to witty t-shirts.

The Oakville Youth Market ran from noon to 4pm, giving local kids a chance to showcase their creative work and run their own booths for the afternoon.

Oakville West MP Sima Acan stopped by during the event and presented a certificate to the market organizers.
