Lake Ontario Resilience Plan 🌊

Oakville residents can weigh in on a new coastal resilience project addressing flooding, erosion, and extreme weather along 100 kilometres of Lake Ontario shoreline from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Oakville.

The Lake Ontario Coastal Resilience Pilot Project is a joint effort by Conservation Halton, Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, and Hamilton Conservation Authority, funded through Natural Resources Canada. The initiative will combine scientific analysis with community input to develop long-term protection strategies for communities, infrastructure, and natural environments.

An open house is scheduled for May 7th in both Burlington and Oakville, where residents can learn more and share feedback through surveys, interactive mapping tools, and consultations.

Oakville Boxing Gala Returns 🥊

The Oakville Boxing Academy hosts its 9th Annual Victory Gala on June 5 at the Great Canadian Resort Toronto, with CFL legend Michael "Pinball" Clemons hosting the event. The black-tie event features 14 fully sanctioned boxing matches, a cocktail reception, and silent auctions.

Each boxer committed to raising $10,000 to compete, with proceeds supporting the Pinball Foundation. Co-created by Clemons and his wife Dianne, the foundation provides educational resources for marginalized youth.

Among the competitors is Latrell Ellis, a steam fitter and foundation scholarship graduate. "To me, the foundation is a mix between family and a network," Ellis said. "There's a lot of people rooting for your success."

Fawlty Towers Hits Oakville 🎭

Interactive dinner theatre "Faulty Towers The Dining Experience" arrives at the Holiday Inn Oakville on July 31 for one night only. Based on the BBC sitcom, the show seats guests as diners in a fictional hotel where characters Basil, Sybil and Manuel try to run service with predictably chaotic results.

There's no stage. The performance unfolds around the audience through improvisation and audience participation. A three course meal is included.

The production has toured over 40 countries since debuting in Brisbane in 1997 and currently runs in London's West End. Tickets start at $158.99 plus tax per person and are on sale here.

Dorval Farmers Market Returns 🎉

The Dorval Crossing Civitan Farmers' Market opened Saturday at Dorval Crossing East Plaza, drawing hundreds of visitors despite cold weather and rain. The market runs every Saturday through the end of November, featuring a mix of returning and new Ontario vendors.

Organized by the Civitan Club of Oakville, it's the town's longest-running charitable farmers' market. Donation stalls at the entrances collect funds for local charities, including Challenge Golf, which helps people with physical limitations play golf.

Abbey Park High School students were on site accepting donations for their Relay for Life event, supporting cancer patients. "It's really nice to see the community out," said Oakville West MP Sima Acan, who's visited the market for nearly 20 years.

Students Shine for Good Cause 🎤

Halton Learning Foundation

The Halton Learning Foundation hosted its annual Students in the Spotlight fundraiser on April 29 at Burlington Central High School, featuring 18 live performances and a new student art exhibition with 50 young artists.

Elementary and secondary students from across the Halton District School Board performed singing, dancing, and instrumental pieces. The evening raised enough to provide 30 backpacks valued at $100 each for students facing financial barriers.

"Tonight was not only about talent, but it was also about coming together as a community to help remove barriers so every student has the chance to participate, succeed, and reach their full potential," said Marc Clare, the foundation's CEO.

The event is part of HLF Month, the foundation's April campaign to support 200 students in need across Halton.
