Kerr Underpass Still Stalled 🚧

Project rendering
Plans for a long-awaited rail underpass at Kerr Street remain stalled, with Metrolinx offering no timeline to restart the project more than four years after shelving it.
The agency says the grade separation is still under consideration, but rising costs, once pegged at $234 million, continue to stand in the way.
The Town of Oakville is still pushing for the project, calling it critical for easing congestion and supporting future growth near the GO station. With thousands of vehicles crossing daily and traffic backing up whenever trains pass, pressure is building locally to get movement on a fix that has been talked about for years.
Knoll Joins Mayoral Race ⚖️
Ward 5 councillor Jeff Knoll has officially launched his bid to become Oakville’s next mayor after months of hinting at a run.
First elected in 2000, Knoll is pitching himself as an experienced voice ready to bring fresh energy while protecting the town’s “small town soul,” with a focus on managing growth, improving housing options, and delivering tax relief.
Knoll joins a growing field that includes Sean O'Meara and Julia Hanna ahead of the October municipal election, while longtime mayor Rob Burton has yet to confirm his plans. With debates already forming around Midtown development and growth, the race is starting to take shape early.
Halton Jobs Up, Businesses Down 📊
Halton Region saw little overall change in 2025, with a small gain of 100 jobs despite a drop of 182 businesses, according to the region’s latest employment survey.
The report counted 13,318 businesses and 246,200 jobs, with openings and closures nearly balancing out over the year.
Growth trends varied locally, with Milton leading the region and Oakville close behind in job gains over five years. Meanwhile, Burlington saw more modest growth, as service industries continued to dominate the local economy.

Friends Build Landscaping Business 🏪
Oakville natives Jase Lachowiez and Michael Lakatos have turned a high school side hustle into a booming landscaping company.
The pair launched MJ Landscapers while attending Garth Webb Secondary School, starting with door to door lawn mowing before expanding into full service property work.
Today, the business has grown into a seven figure operation with 14 employees and nine trucks, serving homes and commercial clients across Oakville and Burlington. Choosing the trades over university, the founders have built both a business and a steady source of local jobs, not a bad outcome for something that started with a couple of lawn mowers and a summer idea.
Moonrise Captured Over Kerr 📸

A clear moonrise over Kerr Street caught attention Friday night around 10pm. The view across the lake made the moon feel surprisingly close.
The scene, shared by a local resident on a reddit post, showed off Kerr Street's lakeside vantage point. What a view!
