Backyard Homes in Oakville? 🏠

Image from the Visioom website

Visioom, an Oakville-based company that builds modular backyard homes, officially opened its Speers Road showroom last weekend.

The company specializes in a new and interesting concept: modular units that homeowners can add to their existing properties. According to Korucu, the new showroom gives visitors a chance to tour a completed unit in person and learn how the modular homes work. He developed the concept after finding traditional housing options increasingly expensive and poorly suited to families' changing needs.

The launch comes as Ontario municipalities continue adapting to provincial reforms that allow up to three residential units on many residential properties, including detached backyard homes.

New Starbucks Opens Next Week 🏪

A new Starbucks is opening on Tuesday, June 16th at the Oakville Entertainment Centrum on Winston Park Drive (the Cineplex and Dave & Busters plaza), bringing another coffee option to the west end near the Mississauga border.

The location features indoor and outdoor seating, a drive-thru, and mobile ordering, aimed at shoppers, moviegoers, and office workers in the busy commercial hub near Winston Churchill and the QEW.

The opening comes months after Starbucks announced plans to close hundreds of stores across North America as part of a restructuring, though the company said it would continue investing in strategic growth locations like this one.

World Cup Specials in Oakville⚽

Joe Carter Classic Returns to Glen Abbey 🏌️

Joecarterclassic on Instagram

The 17th annual Joe Carter Classic Golf Tournament took place this week on Tuesday and Wednesday, kicking off with a celebrity skins game at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville. The two-day event, hosted by Blue Jays legend Joe Carter, brought together golfers and sports celebrities to raise funds for Children's Aid Foundation of Canada.

Over the past 16 years, the tournament has raised more than $3 million for children and youth in the child welfare system. Day one wrapped with a welcome reception at the Rogers Centre during the Blue Jays game, followed by a full day of golf and dinner back at Glen Abbey on June 10.

Science Lab Returns to Oakville 🔬

The Curiosity Cube, a travelling science lab created by MilliporeSigma, stopped at the Oakville Civitan Farmers' Market at Dorval Crossing East Plaza earlier this month for the second year running. About 400 visitors, mostly kids, got hands-on with experiments focused on synthetic biology, DNA, and enzymes.

This year's theme shifted from AI to environmental science, teaching how scientists are working to make crops more nutritious and boost yields for farmers. The mobile lab has visited more than 20 countries since launching in 2017 and made Oakville its only Canadian stop on this six-month North American tour.
