Ribfest Returns This Month! 🍽
Oakville Family Ribfest
Oakville's Family Ribfest returns June 26 to 28 at Sheridan College's Oakville campus, bringing award-winning ribs, live music, and a packed kids zone back to one of the region's biggest summer festivals.
New this year: a Fast Pass lets you skip the rib dinner lines and get a seat in the sponsor tent with complimentary drinks. Admission is $7, kids 8 and under get in free, and parking is free all weekend.
The event draws thousands of visitors each year. Organizers say it's all about bringing the community together, with help from sponsors, volunteers, and local vendors who make it happen.
NBA-Style Training Hits Oakville 🏀
A new basketball facility has opened at 89 Loyalist Trail near Trafalgar and Burnhamthorpe, bringing data-driven training used by the NBA and WNBA to local players of all ages.
Shoot 360 Basketball uses automated shooting machines and real-time analytics to track every shot, telling players exactly what to adjust on arc, depth, or accuracy before the next ball fires out. The facility also offers drills for passing and dribbling, all measured by the same tech that tracks over 1 billion shots globally.
The Oakville location is the first in Ontario, with a second spot set to open soon in Markham. Memberships run on a tiered system similar to a gym, and summer camps for kids ages 5 to 10 are also planned.

Oakville Couple Donates $4.1M 🏆

Source: Megan Morris/Schulich Medicine & Dentistry
An Oakville couple has donated $4.1 million to Western University to support brain health research. The gift will help fund new studies and expand the university's work on neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive health.
The donation comes as part of a broader push to advance brain research in Canada. Western's brain and mind institute has been working to attract private funding to complement federal grants, and this contribution is one of the largest it has received from individual donors in recent years.
The couple has not been publicly identified, but the university says the funds will be allocated over the next several years to support both early-stage research and clinical trials.
Oak Park Centre Fully Renovated 🏗
The Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre on Sawgrass Drive has wrapped a $121,700 renovation funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, with expanded child care space and a relocated tax clinic now on the main floor.
Executive director Michelle Knoll says the tax office used to be upstairs, which made it tough for the nearly 1,800 seniors and residents with mobility issues who use the service each year. The new ground-floor setup makes things easier for the nearly 5,000 people the centre serves annually through before and after school programs, summer camps, and financial support.
