Oakville GO Station Expansion Underway 🚧

image from Metrolinx

Metrolinx has started expansion work at Oakville GO Station, the second busiest station on the entire GO network with more than 10,270 riders daily. The upgrades are designed to support increased ridership as the GO Expansion program moves forward.

The project includes a new accessible pedestrian bridge with four elevators, platform rehabilitation, six additional bus platforms, and a secured bike shelter. Crews began setting up the construction compound in April, with temporary platforms and crossings going in to keep the station accessible during the work.

Metrolinx awarded the contract to Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture earlier this spring after a design phase that started in December 2024. The station, originally commissioned in 1967 when GO Transit launched, is getting its first major overhaul to handle the region's growing ridership.

Local Pianist Debuts Friday 🎶

Hamilton pianist Robert Bruce is making his Oakville debut this Friday night at St. Jude's Anglican Church with a concert he's calling "Meditative Sound Sculptures."

Bruce has been composing original music since the late 1970s, blending classical depth with new age philosophy. His Friday set features two halves of about nine or ten pieces each, designed to take listeners on a meditative journey with no applause between songs.

Each piece carries its own emotion and visual quality, he says, without drifting aimlessly. He's been based in Hamilton but is now expanding his reach to Oakville, Toronto, and eventually London.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or through his website.

Islamic Centre Receives Grant 🏛

The Al-Falah Islamic Centre has received an $80,000 provincial grant to strengthen security and protect against hate-motivated incidents.

The centre, which has served Oakville since 1997 and hosts around 2,500 to 3,000 congregants for Friday prayers, will use the funds for surveillance upgrades, lighting improvements, security staff during large gatherings, and safety training for volunteers.

Office manager Hayat Khizar says the goal is keeping the mosque a safe, welcoming space for worship and community connection. Some of the grant will also support other ICNA-run centres in the GTA.

Halton police reported 20 hate crimes across the region in 2025, more than double the year before, though none specifically targeted the Muslim community.

NE Oakville Fair Draws Crowds 🎉

Hundreds of north Oakville families turned out for the seventh annual Northeast Oakville Fair at Glenashton Park on Saturday, despite cloudy skies and a bit of rain.

The five-hour event featured a massive rock climbing wall, bouncy slides, an obstacle course, remote control robot soccer, and face painting. More than 40 sponsors set up tents, including Oakville Soccer Club, Film.Ca, and Goldfish Swim School.

Food trucks handed out free meals to visitors throughout the afternoon. The fair gave families a chance to get outside after Friday's rainstorm kept everyone indoors.

Pet Spotlight: Meet Kermit! 🦴

Kermit is a 2-year-old male Siberian Husky with a goofy grin, a big personality, and plenty of energy.

After arriving as a stray and being briefly adopted, he’s back at the shelter looking for a patient, experienced home ready to help him keep building confidence, manners, and routine.

He’s smart, friendly, food motivated, and happiest with walks, stuffed toys, frozen Kongs, enrichment games, and people who enjoy an active dog. Kermit needs a 12+ home, a fenced yard, strong door management, and ideally Husky or Samoyed experience. A playful dog or dog-savvy cat may be a fit with slow introductions. Could this fluffy adventure buddy be your missing piece?
