Ford Gets $464M For Trucks 🛻

The federal government is handing Ford $464.5 million to refit its Oakville Assembly Complex for gasoline and diesel Super Duty trucks, marking a sharp pivot from the plant's original electric vehicle mandate.
Oakville had been slated to build next-generation electric SUVs under a $1.8 billion overhaul announced in 2020. But weakening EV demand and mounting losses in Ford's electric division forced the automaker to change course.
The plant, shut down since 2024 for retooling, is expected to reopen later this year building F-250, F-350, and F-450 trucks. Ford rolled its first six Super Duty trucks off the Oakville line in April and says the project will create around 1,800 jobs when fully operational.
Province Funds Primary Care 🩺
Ontario is putting $4.1 million toward primary care in Halton, aiming to connect more than 10,000 residents across Oakville, Milton, and Halton Hills who currently don't have a family doctor.
The funding, announced this week as part of the province's Primary Care Action Plan, will expand Interprofessional Primary Care Teams across the region. These teams bring together family doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers so patients can access the right care sooner and closer to home.
The initiative is being coordinated through Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team alongside local primary care and community organizations. Residents without a primary care provider can register at Health Care Connect for updates as the program rolls out.
Burlington Roller Rink Closing Early 🛼
SUSO Skate Co., the pop-up roller rink that opened in March at Mapleview Shopping Centre in Burlington, just found out it has to shut down early. The mall found a permanent tenant for the former Decathlon space, and SUSO's last day is now June 28.
Co-owner Henry O'Brien said the business spent $30,000 to $40,000 preparing the space, training staff, and securing permits, and had planned to stay through January 2027 to recoup that investment.
SUSO has a specialty lease with a clause allowing the mall to terminate if they find a long-term tenant. Anyone thinking about visiting should head over sooner rather than later. All bookings past June 28 will be rescheduled or refunded.

Iroquois Youth Mural Unveiled 🎨

New mural at Iroquois Ridge | Town of Oakville Instagram
Oakville unveiled its newest public artwork Wednesday night at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, a large-scale mural painted by 12 young artists over five months.
The 2026 Youth Mural Project, led by local artist Ray Vidal and organized with the Oakville Youth Action Committee, brought together teens age 13 to 17 to create something that reflects how they see the town.
The mural weaves together natural beauty, local history, and cultural diversity across Oakville's north and south neighbourhoods, and is the town’s third youth mural since the project started in 2024.
Twelve Young Leaders Honoured 🏆
Oakville rolled out the red carpet last week for 12 outstanding youth at the 2026 Youth Awards, held at the Centre for the Performing Arts. More than 400 guests gathered to celebrate the town's rising stars, chosen from 154 nominees across categories including art, environment, sport, and STEM.
The celebration featured live performances and was live-streamed for families who couldn't attend. Winners were recognized in junior and senior divisions across six categories: Youth Artist, Emerging Leader, Youth Environment, Youth Involvement, Youth Sport, and Youth STEM.
The event wrapped up National Youth Week, which offered free activities for youth across the community. A big congratulations to all the winners!
