May is Museum Month 🖼️

Oakville Museum

May is Museum Month at the Oakville Museum, bringing a fresh look and a full slate of community events to Erchless Estate.

This year’s theme, The Value of Ontario Museums, focuses on connection, creativity, and storytelling, all reflected in a newly unveiled logo inspired by the estate’s history. The updated design blends archival style with a modern feel, hinting at stories still waiting to be uncovered.

The month features a mix of programs, from artist talks and student exhibitions to cooking workshops, tea tours, and evening events. Highlights include Shary Boyle’s garden installation talk and the Historytellers Project, showcasing local student voices. With extended hours and new experiences, it’s shaping up to be a lively spring at one of Oakville’s most familiar landmarks.

Late Night Car Fire 🚒

A Reddit user posted a short clip of crews putting out a car fire near the A&W at Trafalgar and Dundas around 1:50am.

The video shows firefighters already on scene, moving quickly and getting water on the vehicle right away. You can hear a loud pop just as they start spraying, but the situation looks under control within seconds.

Thanks to Oakville Fire for acting quickly and keeping everybody safe!

Debate Grows Over TOC 🏗️

A confidential Town Council decision tied to the province’s proposed midtown Transit Oriented Community near the GO station is drawing frustration across Oakville.

In a recent opinion piece, former councillor Chris Stoate notes the vote was not unanimous, adding to speculation about where Council landed. With the province now approving towers up to 58 storeys through a Municipal Zoning Order, questions remain about how closely the two decisions align.

Stoate argues Council may be trying to stay at the table rather than risk being sidelined, given the province’s control over development. He points to past efforts with Jeff Knoll to push for more local say, while acknowledging that working within the system may be the only way to shape outcomes for now.

YMCA Awarded $160k Grant 💙

YMCA of Oakville

The YMCA Oakville is making its space more accessible after receiving nearly $160,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The funding, awarded in August 2025, is part of the YMCA’s “Shaping Tomorrow” campaign and has already gone toward key upgrades inside the facility.

Automatic gym doors have replaced older handles, making entry easier, while new railings in the elevator offer added support for those with mobility or balance needs. With a full accessibility audit already completed, the YMCA is now working toward gold status through the Rick Hansen Foundation, a solid step forward for a space many Oakville families rely on every day.

100km Tour de Halton 🚴

Halton Learning Foundation photo

Marc Clare, CEO of the Halton Learning Foundation, completed a 100 km ride across Halton on April 23 as part of the Tour de Halton.

Joined by eight riders, Clare made stops at schools throughout the region, including Oakville, where students and staff came out to cheer them on.

The ride is part of HLF Month, which raises funds to support students facing financial barriers in the Halton District School Board. So far this school year, the foundation has helped nearly 2,200 students with essentials like food, clothing, and school opportunities, with more than $22,000 raised this month alone.

You can still donate to Marc’s fundraiser or support the participating school teams in HLF Month campaign!
