Beaver is Back 📰

The Oakville Beaver’s return to print is now feeling real, with local readers starting to get their hands on the new monthly edition.

After print paused in 2023 during a tough stretch for local newspapers, the Beaver returned this spring as a free pickup paper published once a month.

One Oakville Reddit user said they received a copy with their Saturday newspaper delivery and were “pleasantly surprised,” noting it felt more like a true local paper than an ad-heavy flyer. The monthly editions are available for free at various spots within the community, sounds like it’s worth the read!

Oakville Runner Crosses Canada 🏃

A 22-year-old Oakville man is about to run 7,500 kilometres across Canada to raise scholarship money for kids who've lost parents or caregivers.

James Newman starts the trek Monday in St. John's, aiming to cover 75 to 80 kilometres a day over roughly 90 days before finishing in Victoria. He lost both his parents at seven and was raised by his grandparents, and says he's always wanted to pay forward the support he received.

Newman has been training for about two and a half years and will be raising funds for the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada. His route will be tracked live online, and donations are open.

A Cool New Non-Profit 🏂

An Oakville teenager is working to make winter sports accessible to kids who might not otherwise get the chance. Christopher Livingston, a Level 2 ski instructor at Glen Eden in Milton, started Play it Forward Sports in 2025 after noticing most kids on the slopes come from families who can afford the gear.

Livingston partnered with two ski clubs last October to place donation bins at their facilities. Members drop off outgrown equipment, which gets redistributed through Second Tracks, a program that runs barrier-free learn-to-ski sessions.

He manages the whole operation himself while working full time and staying in school.
