Together With OFFA!

Oakville Film Festival kicks off tonight at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre!

The 13th annual Oakville Festivals of Film & Art (OFFA) returns June 17–27, bringing 10 days of films, galas, and special events to Oakville and Burlington. This year’s festival features 100 Canadian and international films, including romance, comedy, documentaries, and shorts.

The festival opens in downtown Burlington with “Kickoff: The Beautiful Game on Screen,” a special launch event exploring how soccer connects communities around the world.

After opening night, OFFA continues in downtown Oakville at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, including three red carpet galas on June 18, 19, and 20.

Hosted by Oakville media personality Tyler Collins and Mississauga director, producer, writer, and actor Cynthia Crofoot, the festival promises a packed celebration of film and storytelling.

Let’s work together.

Burlington Eyes OHL Team 🏒

Rendering of the proposed project

Some exciting news has arrived coming from our neighbours to the West, especially if you are a hockey fan.

Burlington city council is moving forward with plans for a new 7,000-seat arena on King Road that could bring Halton's first Ontario Hockey League team to the region by the end of the decade.

The project would also include a 50-metre competition pool, a recreational ice facility, a hotel and conference centre, and a parking garage. Property owner Alinea has partnered with Oak View Group, which operates Hamilton's TD Coliseum, and is in talks with the OHL and Canada Basketball. The development is part of a larger neighbourhood plan near Aldershot GO Station that could include 8,800 residential units.

Burlington city staff will report back to council in spring 2027 with a funding strategy before any financial commitment is made.

Youth Resource Centre Opens 💝

Oasis Youth Care is opening a new resource centre in Oakville this month, offering career guidance, life-skills programming, housing support, and community connections for youth aged 16 to 29. Executive director Grace Udodong says the centre fills a gap she's seen for years, young people and families often don't know where to turn when they need help.

The idea came from countless calls from parents, churches, and youth asking where to find support. Udodong believes many young people end up in crisis because they didn't get help early enough. The centre focuses on connecting youth with mentors and building skills before challenges escalate.

The facility includes computer workstations, free Wi-Fi, and meeting spaces, with programming ranging from academic support to wellness circles and social events. The grand opening is this Saturday, June 20, from 12PM to 3PM.

Pet Spotlight: Meet Vivian 🐱

Vivian, a one-year-old domestic shorthair, is looking for a quiet, low-traffic home where she can settle in at her own pace. She came to Oakville & Milton Humane Society as a stray and found shelter life overwhelming.

You'll often find her tucked in a cozy box or under a blanket, watching the world from a safe distance. She's not the type to greet you at the door, but with time and patience, she has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Vivian is currently on Gabapentin and Zylkene to help manage stress. The shelter will provide a starting supply at cost when she's adopted to help her transition smoothly.

ALS Walk Draws Hundreds to Bronte 🌳

Hundreds of Oakville and Halton residents gathered at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park on Sunday for ALS Canada's annual fundraising walk, one of 22 walks happening across Ontario this month.

The event is part of ALS Awareness Month and helps fund research into the disease. As of Sunday, Halton Region raised $87,372 toward a $120,000 goal.

ALS Canada CEO Tammy Moore said walks like this remind families facing the illness they're not alone. The organization now has a therapy for about 2% of people with ALS and hopes fundraising efforts like Sunday's will help researchers develop treatments for the rest.
