A New Subdivision Planned🏘️

Town staff are recommending approval of a 132-home subdivision at 1303 Dundas St. W., on land once used for telecom towers.

The plan includes 35 detached homes and 97 townhouses, along with new roads and a stormwater pond. A 3.66-hectare natural area will be protected, and the site sits close to Sixteen Mile Creek and Lions Valley Park. Council will review the proposal April 20.

Staff say the project fits well with nearby neighbourhoods and long-term planning goals. Traffic impacts are expected to stay low, and future buildings on part of the site could reach up to eight storeys, or 12 near the pond. About 70 trees will be removed outside protected areas, clearing the way for new housing on a familiar stretch of Dundas.

Midtown Plan Raises Questions 🏗️

A comment from Oakville’s mayor about expanding the Midtown TOC project footprint is raising new concerns among local residents’ groups.

The province’s plan, approved through MZOs on April 9, allows 11 towers of 45 to 56 storeys near the GO station, though talks are underway to lower heights to 38 storeys while keeping 6,881 units.

Residents say cutting height without reducing units likely means using more land, possibly including town-owned properties nearby. Groups worry public land meant for parks could be part of the solution, but details remain unclear after a closed-door March 23 meeting.

Road Closures for Film Shoot 🎬

Galt Avenue in downtown Oakville will be closed from today until Wednesday for a film shoot, though the town did not mention what production is behind it. The closure runs between Watson Avenue and Douglas Avenue, with local traffic still allowed through and detours in place along nearby streets.

While the project hasn’t been identified, Oakville has seen recent filming from series like Doc, which has used local streets and neighbourhoods for scenes.

Gutsy Walk Returns 💙

The Halton-Peel Gutsy Walk returns June 7 at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, with a fundraising goal of $115,000 for Crohn’s and colitis research.

The 5 km walk marks its 40th year, with registration at 10am and the walk beginning at 11:30am, alongside a lakefront barbecue, live music, vendors, and family-friendly activities.

Organized in support of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, the event funds research, advocacy, and programs for inflammatory bowel diseases that affect more than 322,000 Canadians.

Organizers say while treatments have improved over time, the conditions remain lifelong, and continued fundraising helps drive new therapies and awareness in the community.

Salmon Penning Draws Crowds 🐟

Oakville residents gathered at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park for the ninth annual Chinook Salmon Penning event, helping move young fish into net pens in Bronte Harbour.

Volunteers with the Halton Region Salmon & Trout Association guided participants through the process, scooping fingerlings into buckets before releasing them through tubes into the water.

The program supports the health of Lake Ontario by raising salmon in pens before release, improving survival rates and encouraging them to return to Bronte Creek in a few years. The hands-on event also gave families a closer look at local conservation efforts, with plenty of small buckets, careful pours, and curious kids along the shoreline.
