Together With Making Waves Swim School

Progress That Builds Confidence
Every lesson at Making Waves is designed with intention. Our programs follow a clear progression so swimmers know what they’re working toward and can celebrate milestones along the way.
Coaches provide meaningful feedback, helping swimmers understand their growth while encouraging consistency. This structure builds confidence, motivation, and long-term success in the water.
When swimmers feel capable, they stay engaged - and progress becomes something they’re proud of.
We offer programs for every age and stage, including Parent & Tot (2–30 months), Little Waves (2–5 years), and Big Waves (6+). Whether you’re continuing your swimmer’s journey or just getting started, Spring is a great time to dive in.
📌 New to Making Waves? Your first lesson is FREE!
📌 Babies under 7 months swim for FREE!

Patio Season Is Coming ☀️

Image from LookLocal
Oakville has officially opened applications for its 2026 Seasonal Commercial Patio Program, giving local restaurants the green light to start planning outdoor setups again. Patios can run from May 1 through November 1, so there’s a long stretch to enjoy once everything’s in place.
Businesses are encouraged to apply by April 1 to stay on track, especially for on-street patios. There’s a bit of paperwork involved, including layout plans and insurance, as part of getting those outdoor tables ready.
Safe to say, patio season is slowly making its return!
A Night With The Symphony 🎻
If you’re looking for something a little different to do next month, this might be worth checking out.
The Oakville Symphony is getting ready for its spring concert, Brilliant, happening April 11 and 12 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. The show will feature guest violinist Anna Stube, a young performer the orchestra says brings both confidence and energy to the stage.
The program mixes familiar names with something new, including Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, and the Canadian debut of Florence Price’s Suite of Dances.
Two showtimes are planned, one Saturday evening and one Sunday afternoon, making it easy to fit into your weekend.
Best Kids Experience 🎈
Looking for a fun way to support local spots your kids love?
Visit Oakville has opened voting for its latest Talk of the Town award, this time focused on the best kid-friendly experience in town. It’s all about highlighting the places that really go the extra mile for families, from play centres to creative studios and everything in between.
Voting is open now through March 29, just head online and submit the business you think deserves the spotlight.
The winner gets featured and a bit of local bragging rights too.

Food Program Expands 🥕
Food for Life, a local non-profit that collects surplus food and redistributes it to people in need, is marking some big updates.
The organization received a $197,600 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which has helped them hire staff, improve operations, and expand their programs. That means they can reach more families across Halton at a time when demand is growing.
Food for Life works with farms, grocery stores, and businesses to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste, then shares it through more than 90 community access points.
They say these changes will help them keep up and serve more people with fresh, healthy food.
🐾 Pet Spotlight: Meet Goose

hsomh photo
Goose, a 9-month-old stray, is equal parts cuddly and chaotic in the best way. Shy at first, he quickly turns into a full-on lap cat, leaning in for pets and soaking up attention like a pro. His wobbly charm and love for feather toys make every play session a bit of a comedy show.
He’s on medication for well-managed neurological episodes and thrives on a special diet, both already part of his routine. Goose can get a little overexcited, so a home without young kids suits him best. Safe to say, this Silly Goose lives up to the name.
