Let’s work together.

Desi Mandi Opens On Kerr 🛒

A new South Asian grocery store has opened at 579 Kerr St., just north of Speers Road, adding fresh flavours and convenience to Oakville’s west end.

Desi Mandi spans 13,000 sq. ft. and is stocked with authentic groceries, fresh produce, spices, lentils, and specialty items that are often hard to find elsewhere.

The store also features a takeout counter serving samosas, desserts, and ready-to-eat dishes, along with catering for local events. Owners say the move was driven by strong demand from Oakville shoppers already visiting their Burlington location.

Open daily 9am-10pm, it brings even more variety to Kerr Street’s evolving food scene.

Oakville Museum Seeks Input 🏛️

The Oakville Museum is inviting residents to help shape its future through a new community survey. Staff have launched a short online questionnaire as part of a broader strategic planning effort aimed at strengthening how the museum connects with and serves the community.

The survey, open until April 10, takes about five minutes and asks for feedback on the museum’s past, present, and future. Input will help guide priorities, programming, and long-term goals as the museum looks ahead.

Yard Waste Pickup Returns 🌿

Yard waste collection is back across Halton Region, with residents able to set materials out on their regular garbage day.

Pickup runs every other week alongside garbage collection, making spring cleanup a little easier around Oakville.

Students Lead Blood Drive 🏥

Students at T.A. Blakelock High School are organizing a community blood drive on May 1, encouraging residents to step up and help address ongoing shortages. Donations will take place at the Canadian Blood Services centre at 1250 Brant St. in Burlington, with both students and the public invited to book appointments.

Led by Grade 10 volunteers, the effort builds on last year’s drive and comes after learning Canada needs about 100,000 donors annually to meet demand.

With only a small percentage of Canadians donating, the group hopes to improve turnout this year and inspire more first-time donors, a strong example of local leadership in action.

Pet Spotlight: Meet Simba 🐾

Simba, a 9-year-old neutered pug, is searching for a calm, loving home where he can enjoy a slower pace. This gentle boy loves relaxed “sniffy” walks and quiet time with his people. He can be a bit aloof at first, but quickly shows his wiggly, snorty charm. Simba is house trained, polite on leash, and responds best to visual cues due to some hearing loss.

He would do well in a condo or house with minimal stairs and may live with a calm dog companion. Not big on toys, Simba is happiest simply being near his humans.

If you are looking for an easygoing, loyal companion, he might be just the right fit.
