🍽️ Acclaimed Toronto Restaurant Expanding to Oakville

Oakville’s culinary scene continues to grow. Acclaimed Toronto Thai restaurant Pii Nong is expanding west, with its first GTA location outside the city set to open this spring in downtown Oakville. Known for its bold dishes and eye-catching drinks, the new restaurant will take over the spot at 266 Lakeshore Rd. E, right in the heart of the town’s bustling core.

Pii Nong rose to fame with its Midtown flagship, a 10,000-square-foot destination featuring a Thai market and spa upstairs. While it’s still unclear if Oakville’s version will include those extras, locals can expect a wide-ranging menu of street food classics and modern Thai creations, from khao soi to soft shell crab curry.

🥧 Oakville’s Butter Tart Festival

One of our top picks in this month’s event guide is happening soon, the Butter Tart Market is back at Oakville Place on Saturday, February 7 from 10am to 5pm. Over 50 vendors will fill the lower level with baked goods, artisan treats, and more than a few ways to break a New Year’s resolution.

You can try classic tarts or get adventurous with maple bacon, Nutella, and blueberry cheesecake tarts. Admission is free, and there will even be judges on-site to decide the title for best tart of the market.

🏆 One of Canada’s Most Livable Cities

Oakville has once again landed near the top of The Globe and Mail’s national livability rankings, placing sixth in Canada and second in Ontario. In its third annual edition, the study examined 454 municipalities using 58 factors including health care, community, climate, education, and transportation to determine overall quality of life.

Among towns its size, Oakville ranked first in Ontario and second nationwide, with especially strong scores in access to health care, education, and community belonging. Way to go Oakville!

Emily Carr Public School has earned international recognition as one of just two Canadian schools chosen as a Global Ambassador for Crayola’s 2026 Creativity Week. Selected from over 1,200 applicants across 11 countries, the Oakville elementary school was highlighted for its commitment to creative learning and inclusive classroom culture.

The school received a surprise shipment of art supplies ahead of the week-long celebration, which connects creativity with literacy, science, and emotional learning. Staff say the response from students has been enthusiastic and inspiring.
