Maggie Kang’s Big Win 🏆

A Sheridan College alum is heading home with one of the film world’s biggest honours.
Maggie Kang, a 2004 Animation graduate, won her first Oscar after KPop Demon Hunters took Best Animated Feature on Sunday night. The Netflix hit, based on Kang’s own idea, follows a fictional K-pop group secretly battling demons and has become a huge global success.
The film also won Best Original Song for Golden. Sheridan says the moment is a proud one for the whole community, especially students seeing where passion, hard work, and authentic storytelling can lead.
Election Signs Staying 🪧
Looks like election signs aren’t going anywhere in Oakville.
Council voted against banning them on public property, and also turned down a compromise idea that would’ve limited signs to designated areas in each ward. So for now, it’s business as usual on boulevards, medians, and roadsides.
Supporters of the ban said many residents see signs as clutter or even a distraction. But others argued they’re still one of the easiest and most affordable ways for candidates, especially newcomers, to get noticed.
In the end, most councillors felt a ban wouldn’t be fair or necessary, especially with an election coming up.
Roller Rink Next Door 🛼
If you’re looking for something a little different nearby, Burlington just got a fun new pop-up.
SUSO Skate Co. has opened a roller rink inside Mapleview Shopping Centre, taking over the old Decathlon space. It’s the same Toronto group known for turning empty storefronts into colourful skating spots with music, lights, and themed nights.
The rink runs several days a week with sessions for all ages, so it’s an easy plan if you want to switch things up without going far.

Oakville Hockey Updates 🏒
It’s been a busy stretch for a couple of Oakville hockey players, with both Josh Bloom and Bronson Ride taking important next steps in their careers.
Bloom is on the move again, this time heading to the Edmonton Oilers organization after being traded from Vancouver. He’s split this season between the AHL and ECHL, finding real success in Kalamazoo with 15 goals and 28 points in 19 games. Now, he’ll suit up for Fort Wayne, the Oilers’ ECHL affiliate, where a strong run could earn him another shot in the AHL.
Meanwhile, Bronson Ride is celebrating a huge milestone after signing a three-year entry-level contract with Vegas. After going undrafted three times and grinding through five OHL seasons, he’s finally getting his NHL opportunity. He’s expected to start in the AHL next season, but it’s a well-earned step into pro hockey.
