Pets that are young, elderly, short-haired, or dealing with health issues are especially vulnerable. The key message: if you’re cold, your pet probably is too. Short walks, warm coats, and leashed outings are essential when temperatures drop.

The society also warns about lesser-known dangers like antifreeze spills, salt on sidewalks, and cold engines where animals may seek shelter. Dry skin and cracked paws can be prevented with balms and limited bathing. Indoors, pets need a warm, draft-free place to sleep. Recognizing early signs of cold stress, like shivering or paw lifting, can prevent serious issues like frostbite or hypothermia. A little extra care now means a safer, cozier winter for your four-legged family members.

Oakville Town Council has approved a new three-year agreement with the Oakville Arts Council (OAC), extending their funding partnership through the end of 2028. The renewed deal, set to begin January 1, 2026, continues the town’s annual operating support and cultural grant funding for local artists and organizations.

In 2025, the OAC distributed nearly $196,000 in cultural grants and received a $99,600 operating grant from the town. With a longer term in place, both the OAC and the town aim to strengthen arts planning and stability. Past grant recipients include the Oakville Players and Joshua Farm Gallery.
