Together With Making Waves Swim School

Spring Into Swim Season 🌷🏊♀️
Spring registration is officially open, and it’s the perfect time to get your swimmer set up for success before summer arrives. Our Spring session runs from March 21st to June 26th, giving swimmers the consistency they need to build confidence, strengthen skills, and stay active all season long.
At Making Waves, our programs are designed to meet swimmers where they’re at - from first splashes to strong strokes. Families love our warm pools, small class sizes, and experienced coaches who focus on progress, encouragement, and water safety every step of the way.
We offer programs for every age and stage, including Parent & Tot (2–30 months), Little Waves (2–5 years), and Big Waves (6+). Whether you’re continuing your swimmer’s journey or just getting started, Spring is a great time to dive in.
📌 New to Making Waves? Your first lesson is FREE!
📌 Babies under 7 months swim for FREE!
Spots fill quickly - register today and get spring (and summer) ready!
We’re Oakville’s largest newsletter with over 14,500 readers.
Let’s work together.

💛 Bronte BIA’s Kindness Campaign
The Bronte Village BIA is brightening February with a weeklong “Kindness, On the House” campaign, offering small, thoughtful surprises for residents and visitors throughout Bronte Village. Each day brings a different act of generosity, starting today
Surprises include:
Monday, Feb. 9: Gift cards placed on parked cars in Bronte Village, one to keep and one to pay forward.
Tuesday, Feb. 10: Free flowers handed out around the neighbourhood by Adults in Motion, courtesy of Acorn Flowers.
Wednesday, Feb. 11: $10 service vouchers from local self-care businesses, including Top Tier Fades & Kicks, The Dog House Spa, Rainbow Expressions Salon, Breeze Hair & Beauty, and 1998 Nails Bar.
Thursday, Feb. 12: Free coffee giveaways from participating cafés such as Taste of Columbia, AU79 Coffee, Peach Coffee, and 502 Urban Coffee.
Friday, Feb. 13: Surprise gift boxes hidden around Bronte Village for residents and visitors to find.
Throughout the week, visitors can also stop by the Bronte BIA office at 2360 Lakeshore Rd. W., open 9am-3:30pm Monday to Friday, to pick up a voucher for a free cup of coffee.
🎉 Family Day Fun Returns
Oakville’s annual Family Day celebration runs Monday, February 16, from 10am-2pm, with free activities spread across town facilities. Led by the Town of Oakville, the day features skating, swimming, arts, culture, and hands-on fun for all ages and abilities.
Highlights include museum activities at Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate, library dance parties, and a $5 puppet show at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. Some programs require registration starting February 13; check listings, then plan to roam and enjoy.
🌸 Oakville Florist Wins National Honour
Downtown favourite Ema Florals has earned national recognition, named Best Florist in Oakville by the Canadian Choice Awards. Owner Ema Ismaili, who opened the Kerr Street shop less than two years ago, called the win an unexpected and meaningful milestone.
Since launching in 2024, the shop has grown quickly with its mix of bouquets, plants, and event work. With plans to expand collaborations and open a second location, it is a well-earned congratulations for a young Oakville business already in full bloom.

🐾 Humane Society Gets $10M Donation
The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton has received a historic $10 million donation from philanthropist Klaus Bytzek, a major step toward building a new, modern animal care facility. The current shelter on Cornwall Road, built in 1951, has been sold to the Town and is widely considered beyond its usable life.
The gift will support plans for a larger centre, roughly doubling space to better serve animals, staff, and the community through expanded care and education programs. While more fundraising will follow, this donation puts the long-needed upgrade firmly within reach.
🎳 New Owners Roll Into Hopedale Bowl
After nearly 20 years running Oakville’s only bowling alley, Ron and Linda Watson have sold Hopedale Bowl and are stepping into retirement. Since buying the lanes in 2007, the couple helped turn Hopedale into a familiar meeting place for leagues, families, and generations of local bowlers.
The alley is now owned by Tyler and Jessica Lee, lifelong bowlers who plan to make updates like new scoring systems, food improvements, and easier online booking while keeping the community feel intact.
