📍 Chef Imrun Texeira’s Local Favourites

In a new Toronto Life feature, Award-Winning Oakville-based chef Imrun Texeira takes a break from hosting private events and producing his upcoming podcast, Kitchen Rags to Riches, to spotlight his favourite local places to eat.

Check out his top 3. 👇

Machu Picchu
Texeira praises this family-run Peruvian restaurant for its soulful cooking, highlighting the fresh mixed ceviche and tender anticuchos skewers made with lean beef heart.

Tatin Bakehouse
He’s a fan of chef Lili Linda’s French-Asian pastries, especially the rich almond croissant and the crème brûlée tart topped with seasonal mango and lime zest.

p.s. shout out to Tatin Bakehouse for constantly getting recognized as one of Oakville’s best

Peppino’s Oven
Across from his soccer field hangout, Peppino’s serves up his custom pizza topped with spicy soppressata and wings he calls “crispy, juicy, and perfectly sauced.”

🏙️ Residents Push Back on Midtown Towers

A grassroots campaign is gaining steam in Oakville as residents rally against a revised provincial plan for 11 high-rise towers near the Oakville GO Station. At a packed meeting hosted by We Love Oakville, locals criticized the updated transit-oriented community (TOC) proposal, which still includes buildings up to 56 storeys and nearly 6,900 units. Concerns remain about traffic, overcrowding, and whether the unit mix matches market needs.

While the province defends the project as key to addressing Oakville’s housing crunch, residents argue the density doesn’t fit the town’s character or vision. Local councillors and MPP Stephen Crawford echoed calls for a more balanced approach, and organizers are now distributing lawn signs, launching videos, and urging direct outreach to Premier Ford.

🌊 Oakville Harbours Win Top Eco Award

Oakville’s three harbours—Bronte Inner, Bronte Outer, and Oakville Harbour—have all earned Boating Ontario’s highest honour: the Diamond Elite Clean Marine Certification. Bronte Inner and Oakville Harbour received the award for the first time this year, while Bronte Outer earned it in 2024 after the Town took over the former private site.

The award recognizes top-tier environmental practices, from safer fuelling to shoreline upgrades and waste reduction. Mayor Rob Burton called it a proud milestone for protecting Oakville’s waterfront.

🎁 Bids For A Good Cause

The Lighthouse for Grieving Children & Families is running an online auction to raise funds for its free grief support programs, with bidding open until Monday. Auction items include Toronto Maple Leafs tickets, a signed Bo Bichette jersey, and a week-long kids’ camp, among other exclusive offerings.

Lighthouse supports over 400 children and families each year after the loss of a parent or sibling, relying entirely on community donations. It’s the only organization of its kind in the GTA.

🍔 Wendy’s Staff Help Fund Halton Students

The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) has received a $2,500 grant from Wendy’s Canada, thanks to a nomination by local employees through the company’s Community Giving Program. HLF is one of just two Canadian recipients of the global initiative, which supports grassroots organizations chosen by staff.

The funds will help HLF continue removing financial barriers for Halton District School Board students—covering essentials like winter clothing, supplies, and school trips. A small gesture with big impact.
