🍽️ Where Oakville’s Star Chef Eats
Fresh off earning a second Michelin star at Oakville’s Hexagon, executive chef Rafael Covarrubias is sharing his favourite places to eat and drink across the GTA. His picks reflect the same care and creativity he brings to his own kitchen, with a mix of hidden gems, comfort food, and standout cocktails.
For pastries, he heads to Tatin Bakehouse on Wyecroft, opened by Hexagon’s former pastry chef. In Toronto, it’s tacos at Seven Lives, croissants at Dad’s Breakfast & Coffee, and inventive drinks at Bar Pompette. Whether it’s a laid-back lunch at Manita or a refined dinner at Osteria Giulia, Covarrubias knows where to find good food with heart.
🚆 Confederation GO Station Now Open
Metrolinx officially opened the Confederation GO station in Hamilton on Monday, expanding Lakeshore West train service and boosting convenience for commuters traveling between Niagara, Hamilton, Oakville, and Toronto. All Niagara-bound trains will now stop at the new station, and several trips are being extended to serve Appleby and West Harbour GO stations as well.
Weekend service between Niagara Falls and Union Station will increase from six to eight trips daily starting November 1. The new station features a heated platform, pedestrian tunnel, and 148 parking spaces, offering 13 weekday and 15 weekend train trips.
🕊️ Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Oakville
Oakville will honour Remembrance Day with three local ceremonies: Bronte Legion’s walk and service on Sunday, November 9 at 10:30am, and two on Tuesday, November 11 at 10:50am at George’s Square and Trafalgar Memorial. Residents can also mark the day by wearing a poppy, observing two minutes of silence at 11am, or watching the George’s Square service via livestream.

⚾ Blue Jays Spirit Hits Oakville Hospital

As the Toronto Blue Jays continue to battle it out in the World Series, Halton Healthcare hospitals, including Oakville Trafalgar Memorial, are rallying around the team with jerseys, themed scrubs, and games airing in waiting rooms and staff lounges. The excitement has even reached labour and delivery, where newborns are receiving Jays-themed gifts to mark their timely arrivals during playoff wins.
From babies in onesies to paediatric scavenger hunts and rising TV subscriptions, the Jays’ run is bringing cheer across wards and waiting rooms. It’s a moment of joy and unity that shows how far a little baseball magic can go in lifting spirits during hospital stays.
🎉 Oakville's Smilezone Hits 500 Spaces
Oakville’s Smilezone Foundation has unveiled its 500th therapeutic space for kids at a children’s hospital in St. John’s, just a year after reaching 400. The spaces, designed to ease stress with murals, sensory zones, and tech, are now found coast to coast.
Fuelled by national support and events like the Smile Cookie campaign, the charity’s rapid growth marks a proud milestone for this hometown organization.
