🍜 Celadon House Closes After 20 Years
Celadon House, the beloved Oakville spot known for hot, savoury Asian comfort food, is closing after two decades in the community, the owners announced on Instagram last weekend. The couple behind the restaurant said retirement and the toll of long years of service led to the decision, thanking customers for their support and calling the Oakville neighbourhood “the kindest people in the world.”
The restaurant will serve through select days in December, with its final service on New Year’s Eve, giving locals one last chance to enjoy a favourite meal before the doors close. A true fixture in Oakville’s dining scene, Celadon House leaves behind many fond memories and heartfelt gratitude. A warm thanks to a local favourite for 20 years. 🍪 Andrea’s Cookies Delays Opening
Andrea’s Cookies, the hit Toronto cookie shop known for its warm, chunky creations and weekly rotating flavours, is still working on its first-ever location outside the city right here in Oakville. Originally planned for a December opening at 270 Lakeshore Rd. E., the launch has now been pushed to January 2026 due to buildout delays and a planned exterior makeover.
They shared the update on Instagram, noting that the Oakville shop will be walk-up only and is designed to make a strong visual impression. While there's no official opening date yet, the excitement has been building up, with eager cookie fans flooding their inbox. A sweet welcome is clearly waiting on Lakeshore.
🌘 Winter Solstice Arrives Soon
The shortest day of the year is nearly here, as the Winter Solstice lands on Sunday, December 21 at 10:03am EST. Marking the official start of astronomical winter, the solstice brings just under nine hours of daylight in Ontario, with sunrise at 7:47am and sunset at 4:41pm.
While this celestial event is now backed by science, it once sparked myths and rituals around the world, including tales from Finnish folklore. Thankfully, what comes after the shortest day of the year, is the second shortest… And then eventually we will have light again!

🏒 Oakville’s Nick Lardis Debuts in NHL
Oakville native Nick Lardis made his NHL debut Saturday night with the Chicago Blackhawks, called up from the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs just hours before puck drop. The 19-year-old former Oakville Ranger played 15:32 of ice time, registering 2 shots on goal and 8 shot attempts in a 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
Despite the score, Lardis drew praise for his poise and power play presence. Facing his childhood idol Patrick Kane made the night extra memorable. Next up, he’ll suit up in Toronto on Tuesday, his second NHL game, and the first in front of a hometown crowd.
🥈 Oakville’s Kaylie Buck Wins World Cup Silver
Oakville snowboarder Kaylie Buck delivered a breakout performance last Saturday, earning her first-ever World Cup medal with a silver in the women’s parallel giant slalom in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. She reached the final but settled for second after a minor slip early in the gold medal race against Austria’s Sabine Payer.
The result marks a major comeback after finishing outside the top 20 at her last event. With the 2026 Winter Olympics on the horizon, Buck’s strong showing comes at just the right time. A well-earned congratulations to Oakville’s rising star.
